The Question of Time

How much time do we really have? A lot and not a lot is my answer. It depends on what you are doing with the time. Solon the Athenian Lawgiver said to King Croesus of Lydia: If you live a full human life you will have less than 1000 months to live.

Think about it; a third of this time will be spent asleep; another third will be tied in learning and performing duties. In our modern context, even if we live to 80 that’s only 960 months! You will have something like 300 months to “truly” live, that’s 25 years. That’s a whole lot and not a lot. Depending on what you do.

There is an interesting image of your life in weeks (below) I think everyone ought to have one somewhere. Go and create memories, connect with people and love. Don’t forget:

We do not remember days, we remember moments.

Cesare Pavese
